(The Truth Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell You)
I May say something that might challenge what you’ve been taught…
“You’re not just holding weight on your body.
You’re holding weight in your life.”
And what we accumulate emotionally, mentally… even spiritually…
eventually shows up in the physical.
So before you blame your metabolism…
before you jump into another diet…
before you tell yourself you just need more discipline…
Pause.
Ask yourself:
What am I carrying that I haven’t released?
🍱 It’s Not Just Calories… It’s What You’re Carrying
We’ve been taught weight loss is simple:
Eat less. Move more.
But what about:
The stress you’ve been under for years
The emotions you never processed
The situations you stayed in too long
The things you swallowed instead of speaking up
That’s weight too.
Your body?
It doesn’t ignore that.
Science is now catching up to what many of us feel intuitively.
Research shows that chronic stress, anxiety, and emotional overload are directly linked to weight gain and difficulty losing weight. Studies published through the National Institutes of Health show that long-term stress impacts the brain and body in ways that promote fat storage and disrupt metabolism.
So this isn’t just “in your head.”
This is in your body.
🔬 The Science Behind It (Let’s Ground This)
When you’re under constant stress, your body releases a hormone called cortisol.
Cortisol does a few things:
Increases cravings (especially for sugar and carbs)
Slows your metabolism
Signals your body to store fat—especially in the belly
This is a survival response.
Your body thinks you’re in danger…
so it holds on to energy.
According to sources like the Cleveland Clinic and National Institutes of Health, chronic stress and elevated cortisol levels are strongly associated with weight gain and metabolic disruption.
So when I say you’re holding weight…
Science would say:
Your body is responding to prolonged stress.
I say:
Your body is holding onto energy that hasn’t been released.
💔 Trauma, Emotions & the Body
Let’s go deeper.
Research also shows that unresolved trauma, especially from earlier in life, is linked to higher rates of obesity and long-term health issues.
Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score, explains that the body literally stores unprocessed experiences.
Dr. Gabor Maté teaches that when emotions aren’t expressed, they don’t disappear… they get internalized.
So what happens?
You suppress → your body stores
You avoid → your body holds
You carry → your body reflects
This is where emotional weight becomes physical weight.
🏋️♀️ Why Working Out Alone Doesn’t Fix It
Yes, Movement is powerful.
Taking care of your body matters.
But if you’re trying to outrun what you haven’t healed…
You’ll stay stuck.
Because you can:
Work out every day
Eat “clean”
Follow every plan
…and still feel heavy.
Why?
Because the root isn’t just physical.
It’s internal.
And until that shifts…
your body has no reason to let go.
🧘🏽♀️ What Helped Me Release the Weight
One of the biggest shifts in my own weight loss
had nothing to do with working out.
It started with meditation.
Intentional meditation.
The kind where I sat with myself and asked:
What am I holding onto?
Why does this feel heavy?
What haven’t I allowed myself to process?
And I stayed there.
I listened.
I felt.
I allowed things to come up that I used to avoid.
And as I started letting go internally…
my body started responding externally.
Less tension.
Less emotional eating.
Less heaviness.
I didn’t lose the weight by forcing my body…
I lost it by listening to it and letting go.

🔥 The Real Work (This Is the Shift)
If you want to release stubborn weight…
you have to start where most people avoid.
Not the gym.
Within.
Start here:
Awareness:
What am I carrying right now?
Acknowledgment:
Where did this come from?
Expression:
Have I actually allowed myself to feel and release it?
Repatterning:
What beliefs, environments, or patterns are keeping this stuck?
Science calls this stress regulation, emotional processing, and nervous system healing.
I call it:
Releasing what was never yours to hold.
🧘🏽♀️ Try This
Take 10 minutes today.
Sit in silence.
No distractions. No phone.
And ask yourself:
“What am I holding onto that my body is tired of carrying?”
Don’t rush the answer.
Let it come up.
Write it out.
Feel it.
Acknowledge it.
Awareness is where release begins.
❤️ Conclusion
Your body is not working against you.
It’s communicating with you.
The weight you’re trying to lose…
might not be about food…
or movement…
or discipline…
It might be something your soul is asking you to release.
So before you try another diet…
before you blame your body…
Pause.
Sit with yourself.
And ask:
What am I still carrying… that I was never meant to hold?
